A man who stabbed his 60-year-old roommate multiple times and then was hit by a vehicle has been arrested for the crime.
Carmelo Rivera, 26, of Shelton, was arrested around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, following an investigation into a stabbing and pedestrian struck incident during the early morning hours, said Shelton Police Det. Richard Bango.
Shelton Detectives worked throughout the night and discovered that Rivera was engaged in an argument with his roommate. The argument escalated and Rivera allegedly stabbed the roommate with a knife multiple times, Bango said.
Rivera then fled the apartment and stepped into the southbound lane of Howe Ave where he was struck by a passing vehicle.
Both Rivera and the roommate were transported to the hospital for their injuries, he added.
The roommate is listed in critical but stable condition.
Rivera was charged with criminal attempt/murder and felony assault of an elderly person. He is being held on $500,000 bond.
